Tuesday…

Is it Tuesday today? I thought it was Tuesday last night and I put out my trash cans. Our pick up is Wednesday morning. So…this morning I went out to bring them in and I noticed they were still full and none of the neighbors’ trash cans were out. I thought they must have changed the pick up day and somehow I missed the memo. Well. I did miss the memo, but the pick up day is the same. I missed the memo that last night was MONDAY night, not Tuesday. Duh….

What does all this have to do with weight loss. Well….nothing.

So how was yesterday?

Water? Check

Exercise? Check

No baked goods? No comment

Journaling my eating? I started but didn’t finish because I was out from 5 in the evening to about midnight and didn’t get back on my computer before I went to bed. So that’s a half check, I guess. I’m thinking about journaling in a notebook or something I can carry with me. We’ll see how that one goes.

Today…so far I’ve had coffee (half decaf, half regular) with fat free sweetened condensed milk. I didn’t eat breakfast and started feeling really hungry when I was out so I picked up some trail mix at Trader Joe’s and I’ve been munching on that. It’s their antioxidant one with assorted nuts and dried berries.

Edited to add: 1 bbq pork rib, salad, mashed potato, roasted chicken breast

So how did today look?

Pretty good! Drank water, didn’t eat bakery goodies, journaled my food intake. I never did get in that exercise, but I’m not TOO worried about that. I still have the rest of the week because I had set myself to do five days out of seven.

Til tomorrow!

Back in the saddle…err, treadmill!

A friend recently asked me if I’d be willing to do a weekly weigh in with her, informally, but seriously, for the accountability. I was thrilled because I need the accountability too. So we set it up for Sunday nights after the evening service at church and our first weigh in was last night. Wow. I’ve put on about 12 pounds since I quit being vigilant. You know what this means…time to get vigilant and diligent again. I knew I’d put on a few, but 12? Sheesh. We talked out our personal strategies for weight loss and I decided to make my goals and plans attainable on a daily basis. So my goals are these:

*Drink water daily, at least 4 large glasses (that would give me about 8 8-0z cups per day)

*Eat no baked goods that contain sugar and/or white flour

*Get 30 minutes of cardio five days a week

*Journal my eating and exercise daily.

That’s it for now. Do-able, not overwhelming, realistic. I’ve decided to stick to these four goals until I lose 10 pounds and then reassess and maybe add in other things…weight training, more veggies…whatever seems to be needed at that point. This blog may become very boring (I guess it can’t be more boring than non-existent when I’m not writing at all, eh?), but it will be first and foremost one of my tools to get this weight off, and THEN something for entertainment. There are plenty of well written and entertaining blogs out there for our reading pleasure, and I’m not going to concern myself with any secondary issues until I’m WELL on my way to my size 12’s!

So…with that in mind, here’s my eating/exercise for today.

40 minutes walk

2 cups coffee, half decaf, half regular with fat free sweetened condensed milk, smoothie made with 1 banana, a handful of strawberries, 1 cup or so of 2%milk, a teaspoon of ground flaxseed and some cinnamon

Will edit later for whatever else I eat today.

I’m coming back soon….

….really I am! Someone seriously pressed the turbo button on my life last fall and I’ve been in overdrive ever since. Not sure if “turbo” and “overdrive” work together, but whatever. Also, we’re gearing up to move soon, I think, but I totally miss blogging, so I’m gonna have to work it in somehow.

Surprise!

Just wanted to pop my head in to wish you a Merry Christmas. Still hanging in there? As for me….ummm….well….we need to talk. I’ll be back in the New Year. I wanted to get blogging again before now, but things are hecka hectic around here and I won’t get back to a normal schedule of life until after the holidays. I love it, but it’s super busy. Until then…don’t eat too many Christmas cookies!

Hello out there…

Just checking in, briefly, to say I’m still here, and I SO appreciate that you are too! Thank you so much for checkin in occasionally, even though I’m still checked out. I’ll be back though…it’s taking me longer than I thought to get back to the bloggy thing, but I’m on my way! :-)

Just a short break to get my priorties in gear

Taking a little break…not from eating right, but from blogging. I’ll be back at some point! :-) Not long…just need a few days to regroup, refocus, reorganize my time. I love blogging and being accountable in this way, so I’ll be back very soon! In the meantime, I’ll be eating right and exercising, and I hope you will be too! xoxo

PS I’ll repost my before and after page on this blog, and get my other blog (see sidebar) going again soon too.

Blog worthy. Or not.

Not a lot of blog-worthy stuff going on around here regarding weight loss or lack thereof.

My husband is wanting to lose a few pounds too, so that helps…we can work on it together. He likes to do sort of a detox thing where he eats only fruits and veggies for several days. He started that today and went jogging too. I did fruit and veg with him because I didn’t want to cook for just me. Our son had leftovers. I had a green smoothie for breakfast, tomato soup with fresh basil for lunch, and an assortment of steamed veggies (asparagus, carrots, corn, and garlic mushrooms) for dinner. I’m surprisingly full.

I think tomorrow I’ll do my green smoothie again. It’s my standard breakfast…I like to get a nutritional punch first thing..makes me feel virtuous! ;-) I usually do a banana, fresh spinach, a bit of ground flax seed and some cinnamon and vanilla along with some plain yogurt and milk or water if necessary to get the blender to do its thing. For lunch I’ll have a mixed salad with some kidney beans thrown in and dinner will be…ummmm. No idea. More veggies for sure cuz that’s what hubby will want. I have some eggplant and squash I want to do something with. Maybe I’ll make a ratatoulli. (How do you spell that???) My son can have more leftovers…no shortage of leftovers in this house!

I’d like to get some exercise in tomorrow too. It’s been great hiking weather recently. Sunny but not hot. I watched the fog roll in today though. It was weird. I was driving down a long road that stretches all the way to the beach and it was sunny where I was and at the shopping center where I was going, but I could see all the way to the beach and the fog was coming in fast. By the time I finished my shopping and came back out to the car, the fog had reached the shopping center and the whole parking lot was engulfed. It was eerie.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with weight loss, does it? I did mention that there’s not much blog worthiness going on around here lately!

Onwards, people. This is worth it!

Not to bore you, but I thought I’d post something.

Sorry I’ve been absent for a while. This past week has been crazy busy. Good, but crazy. Things have calmed down now, relatively speaking anyway.

I don’t have much to post about lately anyway. Still working on getting into an exercise routine. Still working on cutting out the sugar. Doing well on the latter and not so well on the former. Been eating more whole natural foods and less processed junk.

Haven’t lost any pounds. I think exercise is the key. My eating is pretty decent.

So. With that totally uninspiring and pointless post, I’m off. I’ll try to be more interesting tomorrow.

Checking in with some random thoughts

So I’ve been using the chromium for about a week. It does work…without a doubt, to help curb the sugar cravings. It’s also a needed mineral (mineral? whatever) in our diets. In my mind, however, the jury is still out about the safety of taking it in such a huge dose, so in the interest of “better safe than sorry” I’ve decided to quit taking such large doses. I feel that I am on top of the cravings…or getting there anyway, and I’ve always held to an attitude of non-extremism concerning eating, if that makes sense. So here’s hoping the last few days of not wanting sugary stuff have given me something of a handle on things!

Contrary to my last post, I’m really not into ingesting the chemicals involved in processed food. Still working on that. That pudding mix was delicious, but I didn’t feel a NEED for it, by the way, getting back to the sugar addiction thing.

I picked  up some new reads at the library today…dealing with nutrition and whole foods. I’m not very far into them yet, though. Working on balancing healthy eating and wise food choices with living in the real world of hectic days and not always having time to cook everything from scratch and trusting God to overshadow my health.

I suppose, in an ideal world, MY ideal world, I’d have chickens for meat and eggs and grow my own fruits and veg. What the heck? I might as well have some goats and cows and a fast rushing river full of salmon while I’m at it! I could even grow grains and grind my own for flour. I could have olive groves and make my own olive oil. I’d also have several people to take care of all my livestock and maintain my crops. I’d probably also have a personal mechanic, a chef, trainer, and a Gulfstream V with my own pilot. If I had the Gulfstream I wouldn’t need all that livestock and agriculture because I could just fly around and collect whatever kind of unprocessed and fresh foods I wanted.

I kind of don’t think that would actually BE an ideal world afterall…

I think I’ll be satisfied with some herbs on the windowsill.

In other news, I exercised on my treadmill today! Yay!!!!

Okay. It’s WAAAAY past time for me to be in bed. I’m getting weird and ramble-y so I’m outta here!

PS That Gulfstream sure is pretty, though, isn’t she?
